Further to the last update on 14th August, the SCA is pleased to advise that a draft lease has now been received in relation to the slalom course at Grandtully.
Since the landowner cancelled the previous lease following the construction of multiple unauthorised and unsafe structures in the river earlier this summer, the SCA has been doing its utmost to take all available steps to mediate the situation and work towards the creation of a new lease.
A short life working group comprising senior representatives from the SCA Board, SCA leadership team, Slalom Committee and local club is being established to discuss and make recommendations on the new lease to the Board.
“It is important to the SCA to continue the constructive and valuable partnership cultivated over many years with the landowner, and we are very grateful they have taken the next step of providing a draft lease. We all want to see paddlers using the slalom course at Grandtully again and we are working hard to ensure that happens. This is just the first step towards that but I am confident slalom will return once the lease is agreed and signed and it is safe to do so.” SCA’s Head of Coaching & Development, Andy Murray.
The investigation related to the unauthorised constructions remains ongoing and is progressing on track. Updates will follow upon its completion.
The safety of all river users remains everyone’s top priority. The SCA continues to recommend paddlers exercise caution when using the river as the river level changes and a fresh risk assessment of the area is yet to be completed.
