Aimed at paddlers in coastal environments, this module introduces ground swell and wind swell. Focusing on how the swell and surf can affect paddling, the module covers surf forecasts, environmental considerations and trip planning.
The Tides module is for paddlers of any craft who want to increase their knowledge of how tides can impact paddling in estuaries and coastal waters. It introduces the key topics for tidal paddling and gives examples through paddling scenarios.
The Weather module is for any paddler, whether paddling on inland or coastal waters, wanting to increase knowledge of weather forecasting and how different conditions can affect trips. The single-module course introduces key considerations for paddlers and how to avoid risks from poor weather when planning and on trips.
The Navigation for Paddlers module introduces both pre-trip planning and on-the-water navigating, including when you may need to change your plan. Topics covered in this module include handrailing, collection points, and aiming off and attack points. The Navigation elearning includes estimating speed and distance, as well as taking a compass bearing.
The Open Crossings module introduces paddlers to crossings in both tidal and non-tidal waters. Topics include dead reckoning, calculating set and drift, and working out position. The module also explores potential dangers and considerations, as well as example trip planning.
