Meet ‘Committed to the Environment’ Award winners, Willowgate Activity Centre

March 7, 2023

Congratulations to the team at Willowgate Activity Centre, who recently won the Committed to the Environment Award at the 2023 Delivery Partner Conference.

Willowgate Activity Centre has been working tirelessly over the past few years to help try to reduce the impact on the River Tay while increasing access to it for paddlers. They run a variety of projects and campaigns, including their ‘Pick it up Perth paddles’. These are free paddle trips on the last Sunday of every month where people go paddling for free in return for picking up litter in the river Tay. Their most impressive find so far has been a 60inch TV! Congratulations to Adam and his team at Willowgate Activity Centre. We hear from Adam...

About Willowgate..

"Willowgate is nestled on the banks of the River Tay in Perth. We offer activities on our man made lagoon and the mighty River Tay, offering everything from taster sessions to white water coaching and British Canoeing Awarding Body Coach Education courses. We really love taking people from their first experience along their journey to an instructor or regular paddler."

On Becoming a Delivery Partner…

"We love all things paddlesports and it's what we do, it just made sense for us to be part of the Delivery Partner scheme to link with British Canoeing and the Scottish Canoe Association closer, meet other Delivery Partners and access the dashboard that helps us manage our team. There are some great resources and relationships to be made."

On Winning the Committed to the Environment Award…

"As we are on the side of the river, we want to educate people as much as possible about how much of a great resource this is and how we need to look after it. We focus on both clean up and education. We offer a minimum of 1 free paddle to pick up litter a month, as well as working with groups to educate them around the river and become part of our River Tay Ambassadors."
