Kayaking/Canoeing Safety video launched with Water Safety Scotland (WSS)

May 21, 2024

Following the release of the Water Safety Code for Kayaking & Canoeing, Water Safety Scotland (WSS) and Paddle Scotland have produced a new video with Kayaking and Canoeing Safety advice.

Canoeing and kayaking are both popular recreational and competitive sports and can offer adventure, exercise, and fun, as well as a chance to explore nature and enjoy Scotland’s beautiful scenery. Like most outdoor water-based activities there are risks and dangers associated with canoeing and kayaking, and paddlers should be informed of these before launching onto Scotland’s waters.

Alongside Water Safety Scotland (WSS) we have produced a specific Water Safety Code for Kayaking and Canoeing (see below). As always, the code recommends that before any activity on the water, you should:

  • Stop and Think, Spot the Dangers
  • Stay Together, Stay Close
  • In an Emergency, Call 999

We have now also released a new video staring Paddle Scotland Development Manager Calum McNicol who discusses the key advice to help keep you safe.

Please also remember to read the advice on buying second hand equipment.
