Recruiting for Equality Group Members

January 14, 2022

Do you believe that EVERYONE should have a genuine and equal opportunity to take part and thrive within paddlesport?

Do you believe that everyone should feel that they belong, are valued and supported; feel that they are treated fairly and respected; feel safe and open to speak up; feel empowered and supported to achieve their own goals?

Have you thought about trying to help make this happen/happen more??

If the answer is yes, then please consider joining one of our Equality Groups!

SCA Equality Groups

At the SCA, we want everyone to have the opportunity to develop a passion for paddlesport and to make our sport as inclusive as possible. We have created seven specific groups to support our equality work,, with the overall aim of supporting more people from these populations into paddling and deliver/steer interventions that will enable more people to find the enjoyment and progressions in paddlesport that they desire.

These groups are made up of passionate volunteers and allies:

-         Young Persons Equality Group

-         Lifelong Equality Group

-         Ethnicity Equality Group

-         LGBTQ+ Equality Group

-         Disability Equality Group

-         Mental Health and Wellbeing Equality Group

-         Female Equality Group

You don’t need to identify as someone from one of these underrepresented groups i.e. you don’t need to be disabled to join the disability group; but you do need to be passionate about supporting the community and inspired to use your platform/s to help create change.

Most groups meet for virtual meetings once every 2 or 3 months and have some ongoing email correspondence in-between as is required for their projects.

Currently the groups are all actively supporting us with the development of the SCA’s next 4-year plan and are establishing their own plans for the same period. It’s the perfect time to get involved. You can read more about the SCA’s approach to EDI and see what the groups are up to here.

If you would like to find out more, please do get in touch. We are more than happy to chat through to provide more information or pick up any questions. equality@canoescotland.org

Hopefully we’ll be welcoming some of you as new members soon.
