World Drowning Prevention (WDP) Day is held annually on 25 July. This global advocacy event serves as an opportunity to highlight the tragic and profound impact of drowning on families and communities across the world.
Since 2022, Water Safety Scotland (WSS) has hosted a public facing event to commemorate WDP day and to promote water safety awareness to the crowds in attendance. Previous events have seen over 1500 people in attendance, including high profile guests such as the Minister for Community Safety.
This year the event will take place at Loch Lomond Shores. Once again the event aims to raise awareness of water safety with as many people as possible as well as promote safe and enjoyable experiences in and around Scotland’s wealth of waterways. The event is possible thanks to funding from Scottish Water, The Darcey Sunshine Foundation, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), Argyll and Bute Council and The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).
Paddle Scotland Development Managers Calum McNicol and Adam Burns will be in attendance this year and we encourage you to come along and say hi on July 25th at Loch Lomond Shores.
