Women’s Safety and Navigation Courses

Between October 2022 and April 2023 we are hosting a series of safety and navigation courses for female paddlers to build confidence and skills in a supportive developmental environment. 


Paddlesport Safety and Rescue Course (PSRC)


This 1-day training course is intended for all paddlers, coaches and volunteers irrespective of craft or discipline choice

  • It provides training on key skills needed to operate safely and deal with common emergencies in a sheltered water environment.
  • These skills then form the foundations for safety and rescue throughout British Canoeing awards.


PSRC is required before you do a Paddlesport Instructor course. It's also really useful to build confidence / practice rescuing different craft in a Sheltered Water environment. So also useful if you are thinking about doing: 

  • Sheltered Water Coach (Canoe, Kayak and/or SUP) 
  • Paddlesport Leader

White Water Safety and Rescue Training (WWSR)


The 2-day White Water Safety and Rescue Training is designed for all paddlers operating in white water environment, either in a kayak, canoe or SUP

  • It aims to teach simple and practical safety and rescue skills that can be applied appropriately to a moderate white water environment.
  • You must be self sufficient with your own WWK equipment
  • This day will be spent in and out of the water, so bring plenty of warm/dry clothes

WWSR is required before you do the following qualification courses; 

  • Canoe White Water Leader/Coach
  • Advanced Canoe White Water Leader/Coach 
  • White Water Leader / White Water Kayak Coach 
  • SUP White Water Coach 

It's also really useful to build confidence / practice rescuing different craft in the white water environment.


Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning (CNTP)

The 1-day Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning course is designed for paddlers carrying out coastal journeys including islands up to 2 nautical miles offshore in areas of tidal movement up to 2 knots and winds of up to force 4.

  • Through a number of practical planning exercises the training provides candidates with the tools to plan and navigate efficiently in moderate sea environment
  • This course is classroom based

The Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning course is required before you do the following qualification courses; 

  • Sea Kayak Leader/Coach
  • SUP Coastal Leader


It's also really useful to build confidence or practice your planning to support your personal paddling in the coastal environment.
