Vacancy – SCA Head of Pathways & Performance

We are seeking an enthusiastic, decisive & committed individual to continue the success of developing Scottish athletes in the Olympic & Paralympic disciplines who are able to join GB teams and to progress onto the UK Sport funded performance programmes. This role will require strong strategic and operational leadership, cultural change and influencing skills.

The role will involve working with volunteers, clubs & other organisations supporting athletes progressing towards the SCA Performance programme, whose vision is “
to be a world leading programme balancing performance & wellbeing, leading to increased success in paddling & life. Supportive of the wider paddling community and leaving all those who pass through the programme in a better place.”

The SCA’s strategic plan 2022-2025,
Paddlesport For All, sets out our ambition to continue to make paddlesport accessible to everyone. Our progress to date is set out in the most recent version of the SCA Annual Report. We pride ourselves on being well run and innovative. We achieve this through effective teamwork between our volunteers, staff, board, providers and clubs and through the efficient use of technology and systems.

You will possess a genuine interest in and have experience from having worked in performance sport, which does not have to be through paddlesport.  You will be able to lead and implement change, and drive culture across the pathway.  SCA staff and volunteers are required to comply fully with the
SCA’s Policy for Managing Conflicts of Interests. The successful candidate will lead, manage, monitor, review and report on activities to relevant stakeholders including SCA groups, SCA Affiliated Clubs, sportscotland, the sportscotland Institute of Sport and British Canoeing.

Annual salary for this post, on a full time basis, is circa £40,000. Flexible working will be required. We encourage applicants interested in taking on the role either full time or part time to apply.

  • Applications close at 0900 hrs on Monday 15th January 2024
  • Initial interviews will be held online on Friday 19th January 2024
  • Candidates invited for an interview will be notified by 5pm on Wednesday 17th January 2024

See below for the job description, person specification & application form. The post will be based in Scotland’s central belt. For an informal discussion about this role please contact Stuart Smith, Chief Executive Officer stuart.smith@canoescotland.org

The SCA is committed to selecting staff solely on the basis of their ability to do the job for which they are being recruited, and welcomes applications from all sectors of the community. Applications are especially welcome from individuals within groups currently under-represented within the SCA staff, such as women, disabled people and those from black and minority ethnic communities.
