This years’ GB Team slalom selection series took place in one event over three days at Lee Valley on the Olympic course. Six races over the three days with the best four results counting towards the selection points meant for a mentally and physically gruelling few days of competition.
Scottish paddlers were representing in numbers with a breadth of experience from first time junior competitors to seasoned Olympians fighting for re-selection.
Each day there was a new course set to navigate with 2 races happening on each course, one run down the course being one race. The racing was super tight with few front-runners in the categories making the competition exciting and a test of nerves. Sam Lever was a front runner in the junior K1M from the start winning 5 of his 6 races and easily reclaiming his place on the team. It was more of a fight for teammate Oscar Wylie who had all the work to do on his final race to confirm his place also on the junior K1M team. This will be Oscar’s first time representing Great Britain and only at the age of 16.
In amongst other strong performances, there were the following highlights:
Lois Lever selected onto U23 K1W team, Sophie Ogilvie selected to the U23 C1W team and C1W senior team, Peter Linksted U23 and Senior C1M team. Bradley Forbes-Cryans and Jonny Dickson selected to the Senior and U23 K1M teams respectively.
