Bradley will be competing as part of the Team GB canoe slalom squad in Tokyo this month, in the Men’s Kayak Single (K1). Bradley secured his Tokyo place at the World Championships in September 2019, where he put down the run of his life and finished just off the podium in fourth place, beating some of the world’s biggest names in the process.
Bradley is a World Cup silver medallist and won silver at the U23 World Championships in 2018. He started canoeing at CR Cats Canoe Club in Alva, and becomes the fourth paddler from the club to represent Team GB, following in the footsteps of double Olympian Fiona Pennie, 2004 Olympic silver medallist Campbell Walsh and, C2 paddler Craig Brown from Atlanta 1996.
Walsh won silver at Athens 2004 and fellow Scot David Florence did likewise at Beijing, London and Rio.
"Campbell Walsh, he was the first Scottish Olympic medallist within the kayak class, and I have massive respect for David Florence and his three Olympic silver medals - it has also pushed me," Bradley said. "They have come from exactly the same place that I have come from and delivered Olympic medals, so I just think 'why not?'"
SCA Head of Performance and Pathways, and double Olympic medallist, Jon Schofield comments: “Bradley has managed to come through an extremely tough selection process in GB where he had to beat the reigning Olympic Champion to make the team. That alone is testament to his talent and tenacity, however I know he will now be striving for more in Tokyo. Bradley has a huge amount of support from the Slalom Community in Scotland, who remember supporting him as he progressed up through the ranks with his club, CR Cats, before joining the World Class Programme aged 19. We look forward to seeing Bradley continue the legacy of Scottish Slalom participation at the Olympics and showing what he can do on the Tokyo course.”
Bradley will be competing along with the other Team GB athletes, Adam Burgess, Mallory Franklin and Kimberley Woods, in the Canoe Slalom taking place 25-30 July.
