SCA Recognition Awards 2023
People are at the heart of paddling. The SCA tries to recognise this in part through our Annual Recognition Awards.
It's the time of year to open nominations for our annual Recognition Awards, in which we recognise the members of the paddling community who have gone above and beyond. Please nominate individuals or clubs in the following categories and scroll down to be inspired by last year's winners.
CATEGORIES
Community Engagement Award
This recognition celebrates those individuals and/or clubs who have gone above and beyond in making a positive impact in the wider community, whether paddlesport related or not.
Examples could be:
- Raising funds for charities, community projects or groups
- Helping the community or others, like delivering meals or supporting the vulnerable
- Giving or lending equipment so that people can paddle locally
Committee Volunteer Award
This award recognises a member of a committee (whether that’s a club committee or SCA committee) who deserves to be recognised for their commitment to the ‘job’! There are many people on committees, who volunteer their time and effort, and it can often be a thankless task. Perhaps this person is the driving force for getting things done, is the club ‘organiser’ or perhaps they do all the jobs no one else wants to do (!), all the while holding down their day job.
Willing Hands Quaich
This award recognises outstanding service to our sport, and provides an opportunity for you to nominate someone, who acts in a voluntary capacity, and makes a significant contribution to the sport. This could be a coach, paddler or club member.
Young Volunteer Award
This award recognises a young person who was under 19 on 1st January 2023 and who commits time and effort to their club, centre or community throughout the year in one or more unpaid roles. The nominee could be a young person who volunteers behind the scenes or maybe they have made a successful step on a coaching/leadership pathway. The nominee must be an SCA member.
Andy Jackson Award for Contribution to Access and Environment
This award is open to those who have achieved great things working to improve/preserve access and/or conserve the paddling environment.
Impact on Equality and Diversity Award
This award is for an individual or a group who has made a difference to make paddlesport more accessible to all, increasing opportunities for under-represented groups to participate.
Coach of the Year
This award is for a coach (whether that’s a volunteer coach or professional coach of any age) that has gone above and beyond their usual role. Perhaps they’ve come up with innovative ways of coaching or perhaps they’ve been extra supportive to their paddlers.
Club of the Year
This award acknowledges the fantastic work being carried out in clubs across Scotland. Club of the year is open to all SCA affiliated clubs and the winning club will receive £50 towards their next affiliation fee. The winner will be selected by considering what the club does, how well the club is organised, connected and promoted, and its plans for the future. Individual members, club members or regional officers are welcome to nominate any affiliated club they think deserves to win.
How to nominate: Complete the relevant form below by September 30th.
Winners will be announced in November following the 2023 SCA AGM.
