Today the International Panel (IP) has released the final 2024 Senior Team selection and the 2024 Olympic Team selection policies. The policies can be found here. The IP would encourage all athletes striving for selection to senior teams in 2023 and 2024 to read and understand both of the policies as the selection process starts during 2023 and the qualification process for 2024 selection process will take place at the 2023 selection trials in Lee Valley over Easter.
The IP wishes to thank everyone who contributed feedback to the draft policies during the period of public consultation. Every piece of feedback has been considered by the panel in the formulation of the policies for final publication. If there are aspects of the policies that you wish to understand further then please feel free contact any members of the IP and in particular Andy Maddock as chair will be available over the Easter Senior, U23 and Junior selection weekend.
The development of the selection policies, in particular the Olympic policy, has taken over 12 months of discussion including consultation and is heavily influenced by the limitations and regulations contained in the ICF Olympic Qualification System. The introduction of Kayak Cross to the Olympic Games in 2024 presents our sport a massive opportunity but with it comes additional technicalities as we seek to identify the strongest team within the constraints of the OQS.
The IP wishes to take this opportunity to recognise the immense effort that goes into the preparation for the selection process not only from the athletes themselves but also from coaches, family members, volunteers and officials whose support is invaluable. We wish everyone a fulfilling selection process and hope that you enjoy the journey as you seek to achieve your potential.
