Obstruction on River Nith Removed

May 16, 2023

The obstruction on River Nith, NS 855 005, is now cleared thanks to Jonathan Riddell.

UPDATE 3/5/23: Huge thanks to Jonathan Riddell for removing this obstruction from the River Nith. This was an impressive undertaking, as documented in Jonathan's video below.

Original post - January 2022:

The obstruction is river wide strainer in the gorge a few rapids down from the pour over, about 50 metres upstream of the derelict narrow metal footbridge

The water levels were low and the gauge hasn't updated since Saturday 15th January. There are multiple trees piled on top of each other across the full width of the river. It was possible to paddle up and over it but getting this wrong has the potential to go wrong quickly with potentially catastrophic consequences.

In higher flows it’s most likely to remain submerged and has potential to catch more debris.
