Mike brings a wealth of professional experience in the field of sports, having previously served as a Coach Developer and Performance Manager in various sports. Notably, he spent six years as the Head of Performance Coaching with British Canoeing. Mike has assessed numerous coaches in Olympic and other racing disciplines, both volunteers and employees, within our Scottish community. As a result, he is already well-known among the individuals he will be closely working with. Before his tenure with sports governing bodies, Mike had a successful career in the Royal Air Force, where he held relevant roles such as a Physical/Adventure Training Instructor.
Expressing his excitement, Mike stated: "I have always felt a strong connection to Scotland, both personally and professionally. Therefore, the opportunity to take on this role with the SCA is a perfect combination of my passions. I am eager to understand the strengths and opportunities of our current clubs, so that I can effectively lead the coaches and support the athletes and everyone involved in the pathways within the Olympic and Paralympic disciplines."
Stuart Smith, CEO of the SCA, commented: "We are incredibly fortunate to have Mike join us as our Head of Pathways and Performance. His arrival comes at a time when the SCA is experiencing growth and the world of performance sport is more competitive than ever. Mike is enthusiastic about getting to know everyone involved and building positive relationships that will benefit our future athletes."
