Meet 'Every Person Matters' Award winner: Samuel at Willowgate Activity Centre

June 22, 2022

Meet Delivery Partner Willowgate Activity Centre. Samuel at Willowgate won the Every Person Matters Award at the 2022 Delivery Partner Conference. Sam has worked tirelessly over the past few years to support the young people of the Willowgate Additional Support Needs group. Through his hard work, the young people have created their own community with an adults and young persons group both forming to support different aims and goals.

Willowgate is based in Perth, Scotland and is part of the registered charity Tay & Earn Trust. The Centre was created 5 years ago to increase use of the River Tay and support more people to get on the water. Since then, the centre has grown to work with anyone and everyone including school groups, international students and groups, individuals on holidays, as well as delivering 121 coaching and British Canoeing Leadership and Coaching qualifications. Our aim is to be inclusive to everyone and ensure everyone has access to watersports no matter what boundaries they may have in place.

It felt like an obvious choice to us, with us delivering so many different types of paddlesports on a daily basis, it made sense to become a British Canoeing Delivery Partner. The different levels of British Canoeing Delivery Partners also allowed us to choose the partnership that was right for us. The dashboard has really helped us keep on top of our team and keep track of qualification and their CPD also making a smoother operation in the background.

Winning the award…

Sam has been working with our additional support needs groups over the past few years and supports them to grow individually with their paddlesports journey. This has included seeing them take on a variety of craft and work through some of their personal performance awards. This is really important work to us as we aim to ensure paddlesports is inclusive and accessible to all. Sam and the centre feel honoured to win the award and has really backed up that we believe we are doing the right things!
