Charity donations

October 27, 2022

Charity donations now available whilst purchasing SCA membership

From this autumn, those purchasing membership via JustGo will have the option to make a donation to one (or both) of the SCA charity partners; Andy Jackson Trust and Canoe Foundation.

All donations received from members through this route will be passed to the charity partners (less the online transaction fee charged by JustGo and payment provider).

These charities have a long history of protecting, promoting and enabling access to the water for paddlers.

Donation is also available for members who set up an automatic renewal (saving 10%),  Existing direct debit members who wish to add the payments can contact us and we will add the donation option in time for next renewal.

The Andy Jackson Fund for Access provides funding for projects to make it easier for paddlers to get on Scotland's rivers, canals, lochs and sea shores."

The aims of the fund are:

  • Protecting Access
  • Promote and protect access to water in Scotland for the population, by improving and enhancing physical access to waterways
  • To advance the education and understanding of the public in the subject of responsible access to water in Scotland
  • To promote for the benefit of the public the conservation, protection and improvement of the water environment and Scottish waters for their own sake, for the inspiration they give to humanity and for future generations, by promoting good practice by those taking access to water, by bringing to public attention environmentally harmful practices etc. and by practical intervention
  • Improve public participation in healthy paddle sports and recreation by both promoting education of responsible access and physical improvements to improve access to water

The Canoe Foundation is a UK wide foundation raising money for, and directly funding, projects across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The projects they are supporting include funding:

  • Launch and landing platforms, steps or ramps.
  • Improvements to pathways and accessible routes to the waters edge.
  • Signage and information that promotes positive behaviour (Countryside code, “Check, Clean, Dry”, take your litter home etc).
  • Designated or additional parking for water users.
  • Works to address erosion and create more sustainable access points.
  • Projects that actively engage recreational water users in helping protect the waterway environment (such as habitat creation or invasive non-native species action).
  • Projects that are multi user or can benefit more than one user group.
  • Projects that benefit all paddlers rather than member facilities
