This past weekend saw a spectacular coming-together of the UK’s paddleboarding community as the Paddle UK Regatta joined forces with the GBSUP British Sprint Championships for a landmark event at Nottingham’s world-class venue.

Canoe Polo

Canoe Polo is one of the only team disciplines within kayaking. It combines fast pace paddling and boat control with ball handling and teamwork. This makes polo an exciting, contact sport in which team tactics and positional play are just as important as the ability of an individual player.

Freestyle

Freestyle kayaking is a fun, fast and dynamic discipline. Freestyle paddlers use white water waves and holes to perform surf and gymnastic-style manoeuvres and tricks. The sport uses short kayaks designed to surf and spin across the water surface, and release up into the air.

Marathon

Marathon is an endurance-based discipline with participants competing in both kayaks and canoes over long distances. It takes place mainly on the flatwater of canals, lochs and rivers and is a fantastic way to challenge yourself, improve your paddling skills, and enjoy the great outdoors.

Open Canoeing

The open canoe is an infinitely diverse craft, being used today for anything from day trips to full-on expeditions over weeks in remote wilderness areas. Canoes can be used on any body of water, from crystal clear lochs to faster flowing rivers.

Paracanoe

Paracanoe is the canoeing discipline for athletes with physical disabilities.


It allows individuals with various impairments to participate in the sport of canoeing, using specially adapted equipment and classifications to ensure fair competition.

Sprint

Sprint is an exciting Olympic sport that showcases speed and power on flat water. It involves paddlers racing against each other over distances ranging from 200 to 1000 metres. Races take place on calm water, with up to nine boats competing side by side in separate lanes.

SUP

SUP is short for Stand Up Paddleboarding. SUP has been growing in popularity at an increasingly fast rate and now represents a large part of the Scottish paddling scene.

Surf

Surf Kayaking is an exhilarating, dynamic discipline that requires a combination of freestyle and white water skills as well as the finesse and timing of a board surfer. It sees athletes take on some of the biggest waves in the ocean. Generating speed on a wave allows them to perform top turns, bottom turns, cutbacks and even aerial tricks. This discipline is both competitive and recreational.

Wild Water Racing

The aim of Wild Water Racing is to race your craft as fast as you can down a stretch of white water rapids. Wild Water Racing is an exciting and challenging discipline, combining the speed and endurance of flatwater racing with the technical aspects of slalom racing.
